Description
Asipim chairs are made by the Asante/Ashanti people from Ghana. Asipim is translated as “I Stand Firm”. The chairs were mostly made for the Asante chiefs. Even small chiefs would have a few chairs in their possession, while the more important chiefs would have even more. You can often see them in Asante royal courts. And if they were not in use they would lean them against the wall. The chairs are most likely decorated, this could be with brass, leather, caps and were sometimes even stamped.
